ACPS seeking Golden Apple nominations!

It’s that time of year again! Albemarle County Public Schools and other area school systems are seeking nominations for the Golden Apple Awards. Candidates for this award are teachers at any level (preschool through grade 12) and in any discipline who have demonstrated excellence in teaching and involvement in the community outside the school.

For the last two decades, the Golden Apple Awards have been sponsored by Richard Nunley and Better Living Building Supply and Cabinetry. The awards are presented to faculty members from the public and private schools in Albemarle County and Charlottesville City, including the Charlottesville Albemarle Technical Education Center (CATEC) and several area private schools. Last year, our local Golden Apple winners were Angela Weymouth of Scottsville Elementary School and Marissa Spurlock of Walton Middle School.

The Golden Apple Award is a means of selecting and honoring some of our most outstanding teachers. Teachers are most important in nurturing our children’s inquisitive minds and preparing them for the challenges of the future. One winner will be selected from each school. In addition to receiving a Golden Apple, every Golden Apple recipient also will earn a grant of $500, which can be used for classroom materials.

Do you know a teacher who fits this criteria? Nominate your favorite teacher online through the Golden Apple Nomination form before January 27, 2025. Anyone can nominate a teacher for Golden Apple: students, families, community members or other educators.
