Would you know what to do during an emergency in town?
Ready Scottsville is an outreach and preparedness program under Scottsville Task Force 17; a non-profit independent organization separate from the Town of Scottsville and its government institutions. It was created by local resident, Jack Maxwell, and collaborates with the Scottsville Police Department, Scottsville Volunteer Fire Department and town government to assist with preparedness issues and to help communicate emergency awareness and preparedness information to the community. The program is designed to educate and empower community members to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies including natural and human-caused disasters.
The goal of the Ready Scottsville program is to promote preparedness through public engagement. This is achieved through social media. Through these channels, Ready Scottsville helps residents, business owners, and property owners in four ways:
- To stay informed about the different types of emergencies that may occur and their appropriate responses.
- To make a plan in the event of an incident.
- To build an emergency kit.
- To get involved more broadly by taking action to prepare the community for emergencies.
“Focusing on community relations helps provide important information to the community before, during and after emergencies, said Maxwell.
This assists the town in promoting information regarding events like storm preparedness, storm updates, storm recovery, outages, and information that the public needs to know during any emergency incident.
