Last week, Scottsville Elementary School held a “Preparedness Week” for students. Throughout the week, students participated in games and activities to learn the importance of being prepared in the event of an emergency. During these activities, which included a fire drill, a secure the building drill, and a bus evacuation drill for bus riders, students reviewed drill expectations to help teach them, “I’m not scared, I’m prepared.”
The week culminated with a “First Responders Day” where students were invited to dress up as their favorite first responders, including nurses, police officers, firefighters and EMTs. Several local first responders even stopped in to sit with them during lunch!
“We felt blessed to have these first responders take time to join our children for lunch,” said Principal Cyndi Wells. “It builds confidence and trust that they are around – not just during emergencies.”
