Resilient Together Project announces Community Design Nights

Albemarle County, the City of Charlottesville, and the University of Virginia invite community members to participate in shaping a more resilient future by participating in the upcoming Community Design Night at Yancey Community Center. This May 20th workshop is part of the ongoing Resilient Together initiative, a regional effort to build community-wide resilience and preparedness for the impacts of climate change.

“We’re asking community members to help shape the strategies that will guide how we prepare for local climate impacts,” said Jamie Powers, Albemarle County’s interim Climate Action Program Manager. “Community engagement is key to making this project successful and to designing the community we want to be.”

Each Community Design Night will provide residents with an opportunity to offer input on potential strategies that will help make our community stronger, safer, and healthier as we face increasingly hazardous weather events. Events will include interactive activities, discussion opportunities, and light refreshments.

“Resilient Together is about working across jurisdictions and institutions, but also about listening to the people most affected by these changes,” added Emily Irvine, Climate Program Manager for the City of Charlottesville. “We want this process to reflect the diversity and strength of our community.”

These sessions are designed to be informal and engaging, with space for participants to share ideas and learn more about climate resilience in our region. Find out more information on the May 20: Yancey Community Center Community Design Night.
