Head to the historic town of Scottsville tomorrow to celebrate the 40th Annual James River Batteau Festival! Festivities begin at 3pm at the James River Reeling and Rafting waterfront property, with batteaux arriving throughout the late afternoon depending on water levels.
Specifically built for the James River, batteaux and the brave boatmen who navigated them played a vital role in opening central Virginia’s economy in the late 1700s and early 1800s. To honor this unique chapter of Virginia history, modern-day crews have been building their own batteaux and navigating them 120-miles from Lynchburg to Maiden’s Landing for the past 40 years.
Join the fun tomorrow to be part of this unique tradition! Festivities include historical presentations by VCNS, Lady Slippers and Headwaters Down, Mr. Z’s BBQ, and live music featuring the Apple Mountain Boys, Matthew O’Donnell and more.
