Local football star visits SES

Earlier this month, the Scottsville Elementary School Tigers were very excited to welcome a special guest, two-time Super Bowl champion Chris Long and the Chris Long Foundation!

“It’s not every day an NFL star walks through our halls, and the energy was absolutely electric,” said principal Cyndi Wells.

During his visit, Chris took the time to sit down and read with several grade levels. He also spent time answering questions from curious students, ranging from what it’s like to play in the NFL to what his favorite book was growing up. (Answer: The Giving Tree)

The highlight of the day was a massive announcement that will help the school for years to come. The Chris Long Foundation gifted SES $7,000 to partner with the First Book organization. This incredible donation will give the school the abilitiy to get high-quality books into the hands of its students.

“We have already put this money to great use by purchasing brand-new titles to refresh our school library shelves,” Wells said. “Even more exciting, this funding ensures that every student at SES will receive books to take home and keep for their summer reading, helping everyone stay sharp and inspired while school is out.”

Wells added that this life-changing event was made possible through the hard work and coordination of Kim Passerell and Kristie Obrecht.

“Their dedication to our students was the driving force behind this partnership, and we are so grateful for their efforts in making this visit a reality,” she said. “Thank you again to the Chris Long Foundation and First Book for investing in our community. We can’t wait to see our students diving into their new stories!”
